What this covers

MATERIALHAUS is the software you are using and the site it is served from. Output means anything the software produces from your instructions: the seamless maps, the Revit and AutoCAD patterns, the SVG and DXF, the cutouts, the metadata and the package they arrive in. Source material means an image you upload, or a scanned surface you pick from the catalogue.

Using the software means accepting these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use it.

What you may do with the output

Output you generate is yours to use, including commercially, in the work an architect or designer normally does with a material: renders and visualisations, models, drawings and drawing sheets, presentations, and printed documents.

You do not need to credit MATERIALHAUS, and no licence expires. An asset you made stays usable whatever happens to your plan afterwards.

Two things you may not do, because they are not ours to permit:

• Resell or redistribute the output as a texture library, a texture pack, or a stock asset — that is competing with the tool using the tool.
• Use output made from a source material you do not have the rights to. Uploading somebody else's photograph does not give you rights to what comes out of it.

Catalogue surfaces and third-party rights

The scanned-material catalogue comes from Poly Haven under the CC0 public domain dedication. Those surfaces carry no restriction from us or from them. Every package records which catalogue source it started from, its author and its licence, in material.json — so the provenance of a material is still readable years later.

Where a package says nothing about a catalogue source, the surface was generated procedurally or from your own upload, and no third party has a claim on it.

What the output is accurate enough for

This is the section to read before a material reaches a live project, and it is written plainly on purpose.

• Colour is not calibrated. A material on a screen is not a sample in a hand, and nothing here is colour-managed against a physical standard. Do not specify a finish or approve a colour from what you see here.
• PBR maps are measured only where a scan supplies them. When you start from a scanned catalogue surface, its published roughness, ambient occlusion and height are used, and the package records which channels those were. Otherwise every channel is derived from colour — an informed estimate, not a measurement. The package says which, map by map.
• The Revit pattern has not been validated inside Revit. It passes its numerical geometry tests and it is compiled from the same millimetres as the image, but it has not been imported into Revit and checked. Treat it as a draft and verify it in your own target version before you rely on it.
• Dimensions are what you specified, not what was surveyed. The software carries your millimetres faithfully through every export. It does not know whether those millimetres match a real product.

We accept no liability for drawings, models, schedules, orders or decisions made on the basis of output from this software. Check it the way you would check anything else entering a project.

What you upload

Uploaded images are processed on the server that serves this page and are kept only to produce and re-produce your asset. Background removal runs locally; your photograph is not sent to a third party for it.

You must have the rights to what you upload. Do not upload anything unlawful, or any image of a person who has not agreed to appear in a cutout you will publish.

Accounts

An account separates your workspace from anyone else using the same installation. You are responsible for your password. There is currently no password reset and no email verification, so a lost password means a lost account — keep it in a password manager.

We may suspend an account that is being used to evade limits or to generate at a scale the server cannot serve to everyone else.

Fair use of the service

Generation is rate limited per workspace, and rendering runs two jobs at a time; a busy renderer answers “busy” rather than queueing forever. Automating the service to extract the catalogue or to generate in bulk is not permitted.

Payment

Nothing is charged. There is no checkout, no card is asked for anywhere in the product, and no subscription exists to renew or cancel. Plans are described on the pricing page with what each includes; prices have not been announced. If that changes, these terms will change with it and the date at the top will move.

The software itself

The software is provided as it is, without warranty that it will be available, uninterrupted or free of faults. Assets you have already generated are files on disk and are unaffected by the software being unavailable.
